My fridge isn’t cooling
There are a number of reasons why a fridge doesn’t keep your food cold. Before you try to fix anything too complex, try these simple checks to try and get things nice and cool again.
-
Make sure the fridge is getting power
Probably the first thing you checked but worth being certain that the fridge is plugged in, switched on and receiving power in the normal way.
-
Check the thermostat
Check that the temperature hasn’t been turned down all the way by accident or mistake. A fridge should usually be set to a temperature of around 4 degrees celsius to guarantee effective cooling.
-
Ensure the vents aren't blocked
Vents at the back of the fridge are vital to allow the fridge to work properly and cool the contents of the fridge. If these become blocked, or obstructed because, for example, they are blocked by food items in the fridge, the effectiveness of the fridge could be impacted. Ensure that there is adequate space for this ventilation to work properly.
-
Make sure that the cooling coils on the back of the fridge are clean
The cooling coils on the back of the fridge need to be clean and have space to work effectively. Over time, they can become covered in house dust or other debris and their efficiency can be significantly affected. We recommend vacuum cleaning the baffles carefully to remove excess dust.
