My washing machine is not turning on.
If none of the lights are displaying on the washing machine, first check that the machine is plugged in properly, with the plug pushed all the way in. Also check that the plug socket is switched on. Some other ideas are shown below but always take care with electricity and if in any doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
-
Check the socket
Once you have checked the above, make sure that the socket is actually working by plugging in another electrical device such as a lamp and switching it on. If the socket doesn't work, try the washing machine on the socket next to it.
-
Check the consumer unit
If none of the sockets work, then check that the fuse box or main circuit breaker in your dwelling has not been tripped.
-
Consider the fuse
If there is power to the socket(s), then the problem is with your machine. First, you need to check that the fuse in the washing machine's plug is still working. You can do this by either replacing it with a new one immediately (make sure that you use the correct fuse type and rating), or by putting the fuse in the plug of another electrical device and switching it on to see if it works.
