Right to Repair: Getting the most out of your appliances
One year on, the soaring costs of living and growing public interest on sustainability has made the UK’s ‘Right to Repair Regulations’ of July 2021 increasingly pertinent.
The Regulations are designed to tackle ‘premature obsolescence’, which deliberately shortens product lifespan, by allowing consumers access to spare parts and technical information which intends to reduce energy usage and electrical waste.
Additionally, since last year new energy labels have been introduced, ranging from A-G rather than previous classifications of A+, A++, or A+++, resulting in fewer products being classified as A rating. This aims to drive the uptake of the most energy efficient products and phase out poorly performing products.
The Government hopes that these new measures will extend the lifespan of products by up to 10 years, helping consumers get the most out of their appliances.
